- StopGap's Having a BBQ!
StopGap Parry Sound has officially received funding to go ahead with the project. Come join us at our launch party on Saturday, June 2nd for a free BBQ! This spring, RISE worked with our community partners and local individuals to build the StopGap ramps for participating businesses in downtown Parry Sound. RISE would like to thank our partners Community Living, Home Depot, the Love Your Block initiative by Lakeland Power and the Town of Parry Sound, as well as Josee and all of the people who volunteered their time and expertise to help build ramps and make the StopGap Parry Sound project a success. We would also like to thank the Wolf Den, White Squall, Dainty Delights, the Town Trading Post, Shelby's Hair Salon, Big Sound Buy & Sell, Kitchen Cupboard Bulk Foods, and Kenny's Shoes for helping to make our community more inclusive for everyone. All funds raised through the parking meters will be used by RISE to help support the services, programs, and events our organization runs. - RISE Shoe Drive
We're collecting 10,000 pairs of sneakers! No, we're not trying to get into the Guinness Book of World Records. We're holding the RISE Shoe Drive to raise funds for our organization and support micro-enterprise vendors in developing nations. No need to open your wallet for this fundraiser - plus, you'll not only be supporting RISE, but also empowering entrepreneurship in countries across the planet, where families live on as little as $2 a day, giving people opportunities to help combat poverty. So how does it work? Drop off your gently used shoes (see below for drop box locations and the kinds of shoes we're looking for), RISE collects and stores them until we have enough to begin shipping them to our shoe drive fundraising partner, who manages the shipment of the shoes to small business owners in developing nations and pays RISE for overseeing our end of the operation. What kind of shoes are we looking for? Gently worn, new or used running shoes. So no boots, heels, crocs, or sandals, please. Where are the RISE Shoe Drive drop boxes located? Aside from our office, 70 Isabella Street., Parry Sound, we also have them at the following locations for your convenience: BRACEBRIDGE Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School MACTIER MacTier Public School MCDOUGALL McDougall Public School NOBEL Nobel Public School NORTH BAY Chippewa Intermediate Secondary School F.J. - Parking Meter Fundraiser
From January 1 - March 31, RISE is collecting donations through the fundraising parking meters located at different locations around the downtown Parry Sound area. All funds raised through the parking meters will be used by RISE to help support the services, programs, and events our organization runs. The parking meter fundraising initiative began when parking downtown became free in late 2016, and most of the parking meters were removed. The remaining meters were paint red and kept to provide an opportunity to raise funds for local community organizations. The initiative is overseen by the Parry Sound Downtown Business Association (PSDBA) and has already raised funds for Harvest Share, Treetops Community Forest, and Community Living Parry Sound. There are nearly a dozen meters, one located near each of the following establishments downtown: the LCBO, Bargain Shop, Post Office, Wellingtons, TD Bank, White Squall, Jessica Vergeer Studios, Bearly Used Books, Old Fire Hall, and Lil’s. So, the next time you see one of these red meters, unload some of those spare coins weighing down your wallet and pockets. Don't forget to look under your couch cushions, furniture, jackets and to check all the little nooks and crannies in your car! Every little penny, dime, nickle, and quarter on its own may not be much, but when you count them all together, those small coins make big change! RISE thanks everyone for their contributions, as well as the PSDBA for their efforts in establishing and maintaining this great fundraising initiative!
