The Gathering Place is a welcoming peer support group created especially for seniors, caregivers, and people with disabilities. Built on shared experiences and mutual support, this group provides a safe and friendly space to connect, learn from one another, and foster a sense of community. While the group is designed with these audiences in mind, everyone is welcome to participate.
PEER SUPPORT
Peer Support provides opportunities for people with disabilities to share their knowledge and lived experiences with one another. A peer is recognized as someone who has had a similar experience and is willing to share the lessons they have learned.
Peer Support encourages individuals to develop leadership skills and supports them in exercising their rights and responsibilities. IL Centres are expected to rely on the lived and shared experiences of persons with disabilities in the development of programs and services.
Peer Support promotes integration and participation in the broader community and supports individuals in facing new and potentially challenging situations. It also helps reduce isolation while fostering personal growth and community connection.
To ensure accessibility and inclusion, The Gathering Place and BuzzTalk Tuesdays are offered in a hybrid format, allowing participants to join either in person or via Zoom.
Whether you join online or face-to-face, members have the opportunity to share, listen, and support one another in a respectful and encouraging environment.
